BIO-TESLAB

BIO-TESLAB is a research group that began to develop in 2010 from Thermal Spray Res. & Dev. Lab. Complex (TESLAB) in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department, SAU, and continues research activity in TESLAB until today. Our group, led by Dr. Fatih Erdem Baştan,  worked on producing plasma-sprayable hydroxyapatite powders and plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite coatings in the early years. Currently, by establishing a strong collaboration with other disciplines, working on the biomedical area, medicine, dentistry, biology, and chemistry, we are extending our research area. Our team is mainly specialized in particle synthesis, processing, and coatings.

Our Working Fields

1. Nanoparticle Synthesis
+Producing particles having various morphologies, sizes, and pore structures by precipitation and hydrothermal synthesis

2. Spray Drying
+Preparation powders/granules for pressing, thermal spraying, and 3D printing applications

3. Biomedical Coatings
+Biostable and soft bioresorbable coatings' deposition by thermal spraying and electrophoretic deposition (EPD) processes

4. Implants' Surface Modification
+Functionalization of surfaces by anodization, SLA, and atmospheric pressure plasma modification

5. Drug Delivery Systems
+ Drug loading in the particles or implant surfaces and their controlled release

Our Mission

BIO-TESLAB's mission is to be an interface laboratory that produces knowledge and translates it dynamically and promptly to the partners; delivers repeatable and accurate analysis services; develops advanced biomaterials conforming to the world standards; educates engineers having high theoretical knowledge and application capability

Our Vision

As BIO-TESLAB, our vision is to develop high-technology biomaterials through national or international joint projects with biology, medicine, dentistry, and other engineering departments; to be a laboratory, hosting national and international researchers and collaborating with prestigious academicians; to develop patented products/methodology by joint industrial projects and to launch initiatives, which can turn into valuable brands.

Modern Working Places

Completed its construction and infrastructure through a project funded by the Turkish Ministry of Development entitled "Increasing Capacity and Modernization of Production Facility of Orthopedic Implant Coating for In Vivo Applications" in 2015-2019; BIO-TESLAB holds a modern working area. We are producing the materials in the pilot scale equipment in our laboratory, and we analyze these materials in sophisticated devices in our laboratory.

BIO-TESLAB building covers half of the Thermal Spray Res. & Dev. Laboratory

As an energetic group, we show quick reaction

BIO-TESLAB is experienced in topics like serving solutions to industrial problems, project designing, biomaterials production, and materials tests and analysis, and we rapidly respond to our partners. Additionally, we conduct joint projects with other disciplines and deliver logistical support when needed. Our domestic and abroad partners can carry on their scientific and industrial works by utilizing our laboratory.

We have a clean room for implant sterilization and packaging.

We Educate Eligible Engineering Students

After accepting high-potential bachelor and graduate students in their early education period, we give them theoretical information and a chance to apply their knowledge practically. As broad-visioned, solution-oriented, and analytical thinking, our Alumni can work in the companies' production, quality control, and research and development departments. Continuing our Alumni established a substantial and long-term connection in our team. We supported the required information and equipment to our Alumni, who obtained academic or industrial positions.
